In conversation with Ada Göral, MINT Conflict, Peace and Security 1st Year.
Q: What makes you the ideal candidate for your role, and how do you believe your background will help you succeed in this position?
I believe that I am an ideal candidate to be an Events Coordinator because I am eager to improve our event management by listening to students’ suggestions and concerns, while taking a proactive role in the coordination. Besides, I give value to fostering an inclusive environment in the Institute, and I can take a step towards this goal through the improvements in our event design and organization.
Q: How do you plan to approach the role in a way that ensures the smooth running of GISA’s operations and fosters a collaborative atmosphere?
I am committed to establishing a more structured and well-organized approach to event coordination. To accomplish this, I intend to develop a more effective feedback system aimed at enhancing our events. Additionally, I plan to improve the response mechanisms related to student initiatives in the events they are organizing. By fostering collaboration among various class representatives, teams, and initiatives, I aim to ensure the delivery of events in the most efficient and smooth manner possible. Thus, I believe that we can strengthen our community sense through these collaborations for event organization.
Q: What past experiences have prepared you for the challenges of this role, and how will you use these experiences to improve GISA’s efficiency?
I worked in various school clubs during my undergraduate studies, where I helped my team organize events. Besides, I am currently working in the Peacebuilding Initiative, where we organize events to empower young voices in peace discussions. In this sense, I already have prior experience in event coordination, including logistics and stage management. In the course of these experiences, I have successfully navigated several challenges, including low turnout, technical difficulties, and scheduling conflicts, by implementing effective strategies. I am confident that these experiences will allow me to generate innovative solutions to potential challenges we may encounter at GISA, thereby enhancing our efficiency through improved mechanisms.
Q: If elected, what would be your primary goal and how would you ensure its successful implementation during your tenure?
My primary goal is to ensure that students feel at home and in a safe space. For this reason, I would like to start my tenure with the new inclusive event themes to honor our diverse backgrounds and this multicultural community. To ensure its implementation, I would like to approach it step by step, and first open this up for a discussion with other members to collaborate and take their ideas to build my vision more concretely.
Q: How do you plan to make GISA more accessible and transparent for students, particularly when it comes to administrative processes and decision-making?
I would like to make our events more accessible for everyone under emotional, physical, communicational, and cultural aspects. This might include an inclusive food option, providing clear trigger warnings, enhancing sensory-friendly sessions, and increasing visual aids for a better understanding, as well as ensuring physical access for students with disabilities. Regarding the transparency, the administrative processes can enhance budget details, clear documentation and guidelines, and provide more systematic updates on the decisions taken through accessible channels for communication.
Q: What are three core values you bring to your role?
Inclusivity, accessibility, and diversity.
Q: Lastly, a few creative ways or plans of action (chance to do something different)
I would like to propose the establishment of diversity dialogues aimed at creating safe spaces for individuals from various backgrounds, cultures, and identities. These dialogues can be structured around different themes, facilitating connections among participants who share similar concerns and experiences while fostering empathy and understanding toward others. Additionally, we can incorporate anonymous participation mechanisms to ensure that all individuals feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and sharing their experiences. Besides, I am committed to establishing a study buddy program designed to support students throughout their academic journey. This initiative aims to match students enrolled in the same courses or similar programs, enabling them to collaborate and share knowledge and resources. This way, those who may be experiencing difficulties in understanding specific concepts can receive the support they need from their peers.
