In conversation with James Nyumu, MINT 1st year.
Q. Why do you think you are the best candidate for the role of Events Coordinator?
I believe I am the best candidate for the role of Events Coordinator because of my diverse background in event organization, cultural exchange, and community engagement. My experiences working as a Communications Assistant at Université Lumière Lyon 2 and coordinating student initiatives at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa have equipped me with the skills needed to plan and execute successful events. Additionally, my involvement in the Afrique Student Association (ASA) initiative at the Institute has allowed me to contribute to organizing events such as the upcoming Africa Summit. With my passion for creating memorable experiences, I am committed to ensuring that all events organized by GISA reflect the diversity of our student body and contribute to building a vibrant campus culture.
Q. How will your experiences as a student at the Institute shape your approach to the role of Events Coordinator?
As a student at the Institute, I understand the importance of creating a sense of community and belonging. My experiences navigating student life here have given me insights into the needs and interests of our diverse student body. I will leverage this understanding to tailor events catering to our students’ interests while promoting cultural diversity and amplifying their voices. Additionally, I will prioritize open communication and collaboration with student initiatives to ensure that our events are engaging to all.
Q. What other experience do you believe qualifies you for the role of Events Coordinator?
In addition to my experience in event organization and coordination, I bring strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and attention to detail to the role of Events Coordinator. My ability to speak four languages allows me to effectively communicate and connect with students from diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, my past experiences have sharpened my organizational abilities, enabling me to streamline event planning processes and ensure that events run smoothly.
Q. From the perspective of the Events Coordinator role, what are the three most relevant issues concerning student life at the Institute?
- Ensuring that events reflect the diversity of the student body.
- Addressing logistical challenges in event planning and organization, such as venue reservations and resource management.
- Promoting a sense of community and belonging through engaging and meaningful events catering to the student’s interests and needs.
Q. What is one aspect of the role of Events Coordinator that you would like students to know about?
One aspect of the role of Events Coordinator that I would like students to know about is the importance of their input and feedback. I am committed to establishing open communication channels to solicit input from fellow students on the events we organize. Your feedback will be invaluable in ensuring that our events are inclusive, engaging, and reflective of the student body’s diverse interests and perspectives.
Q. If elected, what would be your primary goal as Events Coordinator?
If elected, I want to work towards a vibrant campus culture that celebrates diversity, promotes cultural exchange, and provides meaningful opportunities for connection and engagement. Through collaborative efforts and open communication, I aim to transform our collective vision into reality and make lasting memories together.
